After 32 years, Encore Studios has decided not to display at this year’s National Stationery Show. According to a release from Encore they felt slower traffic, fewer dealers attending the show and related issues tied into the sluggish economy did not provide adequate justification to the cost of exhibiting.
eWN has been tracking events at Encore since allegations by retailers claimed the company was trying to sell direct to customers and bypass their accounts. Long-time employee and wedding industry veteran, Brian Lawrence, left Encore earlier this year to pursue a marketing career after serving on the Board of Advisers for Greetings Etc. magazine and The National Stationery Show.
Discussions with Lawrence suggested conflict towards the end of his stay with Encore that may have involved selling direct to consumers. Lawrence is a staunch supporter of small business owners and felt he was at the end of the relationship when pressured to develop a website that would compete with store owners.
Attempts to reach Robert Bloom, President of Encore, have been unsuccessful.
