After a Moderate First Half Wedding Vendors Look to a Strong Fall

By Paul Pannone

A slow start for weddings in 2012 shows the ongoing shift towards fall months, as couples plan a wedding in less hot, humid temperatures. According to Wiki Answers June is still the most popular wedding month, with October second. But not if you ask other sources, including Soundvision.com, August is second on their list; then September, then October. Wiki, Soundvision and other sources agree that June is number one. But depending on whose data you subscribe to, the rest is up for conjecture.

Soundvision’s statistics on the most popular months for weddings;

January 4.7%
February 7.0%
March 6.1%
April 7.4%
May 9.8%
June 10.8%
July 9.7%
August 10.2%
September 9.6%
October 9.4%
November 7.4%
December 7.8%

Although there’s no definitive facts to show the trend, most wedding vendors agree fall weddings continue to increase.

Wedding data and statistics continues to be a mystery; how data is gathered and dissected depends on the company. In the past organizations that sell advertising give data, only if the information paints a positive picture and encourages advertisers to spend money in their publication. Finding the right mix of editorial and advertising remains difficult. Paying for data is all but extinct.

What do you think? What is your busiest month?

Historically, there have been more wedding during the second half of the year than during the first for more than 35 years.  While these are the best numbers available, they exclude US citizens who marry at locations in foreign countries.  Since destination weddings represent nearly one-third of all American marriages — and since Mexico is among the leading destination wedding destinations, I’m not certain how it’s possible to develop a reasonable assumption about the number of weddings in the USA.

It might be more realistic to look at local wedding statistics in your own market to track the number of weddings and the numerical variations.
