The Week of July 16th in Review

By Paul Pannone

Old, thought defunct and established websites needing a new image are getting re-vamped, as many are not able to be sold but still have value. Get Married gets a revamp but a current poll says advertisers are no longer interested in paying for third-party websites. But despite the move to change their ways the Taylor Corporation has a difficult road ahead, as most businesses invest and promote their own website and Social Networking campaigns instead of investing in third-party websites, according to an ongoing poll.

A move by the Barak Obama re-election campaign to get brides to fork over their wedding gifts has all but failed. In less than a month reports, supported by an ongoing eWedNewz poll, say the campaign is a bomb.

Obama Boo Boo; Brides Want their Wedding Gifts

By Paul Pannone

In less than a month the campaign to divert wedding gifts to the re-election of President Obama is dead in the water. According to a story from the New York Post

“the Event Registry” has been all but ignored on social-media sites — even though Facebook, Twitter and other networks have been a strong suit for the Obama campaign.”

In what’s being labeled one of the dumbest political moves, the campaign to get a hold of wedding gifts is all but over.

In every Social Media outlet the campaign was mocked and labeled the worst idea ever by wedding event planners, brides and the public. Quietly, even supporters of Obama wondered what the president was thinking with this one.

With a languishing economy and difficult wedding environment couples look to cover their cost of their events. A random poll of brides said they were not willing to give their proceeds to anyone, let alone political agendas.

Quinnipiac Poll Reveals Married and Non-Married Political Differences

By Paul Pannone

A Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday showed President Barack Obama holds a 54 percent-34 percent lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney among non-married voters, while the GOP nominee leads the president 51 percent-38 percent among married voters.

“Although much has been made about the gender gap and how President Barack Obama’s lead among women fuels his campaign, the marriage gap is actually larger and more telling,” said Quinnipiac pollster Peter Brown.

“The marriage gap may be related to the different priorities and economic situations of married and single people,” he said.

“Married people are more likely to be older, more financially secure and more socially conservative than unmarried voters,” he said. “Married voters are more likely to focus on the economy and healthcare, while single voters are more focused on issues such as gay rights and reproductive issues.”

From July 1 – 8, Quinnipiac University surveyed 2,722 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 1.9 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.

Dear Wedding Guests; Fund the President’s Re-Election Campaign

By Paul Pannone

This one is almost too stupid to write about but does keep in line with the degradation of American Society and what new lows can be achieved. When I first heard about the President’s plan asking wedding couples to forego gifts and divert them to his re-election campaign I thought it was some sort of Joke; the kind you see on Saturday Night Live .

Who needs a Crock-pot? Give to Obama till it hurts.

But there is a sucker born every second and twice as many hucksters ready to prey on them, so the Obama Event Registry – the President’s newest fundraising initiative that asks supporters to collect campaign contributions to help keep him in office in lieu of birthday, anniversary or wedding gifts — has launched.

In January eWedNewz covered a story that blatantly asked wedding guests for cash, sparking an active discussion among Wedding Water Cooler members. But with Obama’s proposal, some Cooler members were more tolerant– even understanding– when it comes to the latest ploy. Khalilah Olokunola answered some of the Cooler razzing by saying:

“Organizations have asked for money for years …..All in the name of their cause. Donations in lieu of gifts is all the new green thing to do and has become popular with celebrities.

I think we should look at a few factors regarding Obama :

1. They built and mobilized an entire campaign using the internet and social media -using the tagline Yes we can and won

2. They maintained a way of communication-again using the internet to rally the troops with an online directory of supporters to create local town hall meetings.

3.They raised more money in history ….wait for it-using the internet and the meet me here tactic…

If they have added weddings to the fold-there is another piece coming forward…we will again wait for it…especially with his stance on gay marriages….Strategy…..in the making that I think is simple genius.”

Delayed Marriages Blamed on Obama

By Paul Pannone

eWedNewz continues our investigation of how the recession delayed weddings and caused the current spending changes, while an ongoing Poll says wedding activity is up. In December eWedNewz started a poll that asked if marriage would rebound. Currently only 15% of respondents said marriage will return to pre-recession levels while over 60% feel marriages will stabilize or decline at a slower rate than they’ve been.

Presidential incumbent, Barack Obama, is losing the very segment of voters that got him elected to his first term.

In July, 2011, eWedNewz asked wedding experts if the wedding business is in a degenerative state at a time when the economy was still struggling with less cause for optimism. Since then Wedding Water Cooler members raised their outlook, as reported wedding activity is up from a year ago.

So where are we now?

Some Wedding Water Cooler members say there is a backlog of weddings directly linked to the bad economic factors. The myth that weddings are recession-proof  has long been dispelled but love springs eternal, as reports of an increase in wedding activity continues to be heard. Some feel the increased in wedding activity is linked to the improving economy. According to wedding Water Cooler members a sour economy kept couples together. But the improving economy could be leading to partners splitting and remarrying quickly. It’s agreed those weddings are smaller and spending less than traditional first-time weddings. But the part of the market is tiny compared to the real age demographics for weddings.

According to the Washington Examiner the age range for first-time marriages are delaying the key factors associated with weddings. Disenchanted with the current state of the economy the Washington examiner says;

“Obama, who won 66 percent of the 24 million voters age 18-29 in 2008, has seen that support slashed.”

According to the story:

44 percent are delaying buying a home.
28 percent are delaying saving for retirement.
23 percent are delaying starting a family.
18 percent will wait to get married.

eWedNewz continues our investigation into why sources in the wedding business are experiencing higher activity, contrary to the Washington Examiner story.

Why do you think that is? Please weigh in.
